Banana River
Valentines Slam
Capt. Richard Bradley
had a great day of fishing with father and son fishing team,
(Brad and Josh Jones) on a beautiful February day on the Banana
River! Early in the morning we watched tailing redfish on
a clear flat and saw a big school of reds swim directly at
the boat only to peel away within 15 feet or so. "It
was breath taking to see large reds in 18 inches of water",
explained Brad as Capt. Richard poled the boat within castin
distance of the school.
Josh caught the Lion's share of the fish while dad watched
proudly. At days end the sum total was somewhere around nine
very nice trout and two (2) keeper redfish. Although we saw
alot more redfish and trout, they were extremely shy in the
very shallow lagoon. Try very subtle lures (small weedless
spoons or jerk baits). I like the red rippers.
The trout are on the flats again and sunning in the white
sand areas. Reds are doing the same as the temperatures are
rising. We used live bait for all the fish landed today.
JOSH: Gina found a pinfish in the wash today. Hmmmm.... seems
that it was in the hood of my sweatshirt. Know anything about
this?
