Florida Wildlife Commission and The Marine Fisheries Organization

One evening out for snook bite at Port Canaveral we got checked from the Florida Wildlife Commission (also known as the FWC). Although we passed our boat inspection with flying colors and did not possess any illegal fish I still recieved a citation as the sun was going down for not having my running lights on even though I quickly flipped the switch when the officer made me aware of the problem. After all we'd been out before the sunset and it was still shining behind the horizon when I was stopped. Now, I'm a big supporter of the FWC and their endeavors but this did not set right with me as it seemed the officer was not satisfied to go away without handing out his quota of tickets for the evening.

Oh Well! The fishing trip was a big success and my customer was as disturbed about the officer's policy and hoped it did not reflect upon the FWC as a whole since he was to be a new resident in Florida.

Anyways here's the letter I recieved shortly after that ill fated trip and confrontation with the FWC officer that made the whole evening trip worth it all.

Capt Richard,  wanted to thank you again for that great fishing we had last Wednesday night (August 6th).  I never could have imagined seeing and having sight fishing opportunities at so many BIG snook.  It was awesome watching them follow, then grab our plugs & baits!!!!  The fishing there is unbelievable and I can't wait to get down there and go out with you again!!!!

I hope you didn't have too much of a mess to clean up from my snook.  I just followed your instructions.  When you said keep his head out of the water that is what I did!!!!  When he slammed the plug and started jumping-I just kept pulling and reeling.  Can you believe he jumped into the boat with us???!!!!  What a blast-a 15 plus pound snook jumping around in the boat.  I just did what you told me!!!!!!!!!!  I will never forget that!!!!!!  I can't imagine having more fun than we did that night!  A great captain with great fishing!!!!!!

I have several friends I showed the photos and they can't wait to come down and go with you!!!!  Thank you again, I will be calling you soon to book several more trips!!!!!Jeff Thummel

P.S. email me the photos so I can send them to people and I guarantee more of my friends will be calling you!!!!

Florida Wildlife Commission of FWC

Always check fishing laws in Florida before you go out on the water. Go to The Florida Wildlife Commission's Website to find out the latest. If you see or know of any wildlife or fishing regulation infractions please contact the nearest FWC station listed on the Florida Wildlife Commission's (FWC) website. Oh Yeah, and turn your lights on before the official sunset! It might save you a $60 ticket from a disgruntled Wildlife Officer.

Lagooner, Inc. supports the FWC in it's endeavor to protect Florida's fisheries and our quality of life on Florida's waterways.
