Cocoa Beach Cobia Charters and Fishing

Florida's Finest Fishing Trips for Ling and Lemon Fish

Monday August 21, 2017

Cocoa Beach has some spectacular fishing off it's coastline during the spring and summer for large roaming cobia. Sight fishing is the most fun for anglers as they get to see the fish before casting toward them offering bait and artificials.

During the months of March and April during Spring Break and when the temperatures are starting to warm up is the very best time to target migrating cobia on Florida's coastlines. You can find cobia simply swimming along the surface basking in the sun, making wrecks and reefs home or following large marine life like turtles, manta rays, sharks and the likes. It's not uncommon to find cobia swimming around floatsome or buoys, chances are good in Florida, if you see something floating in the ocean, you just might find a curious cobia.

How do I connect with a Cobia Fishing Charter Captain and Guide?

Port Canaveral host every last one of the best cobia fishing charter boats for Cocoa Beach visitors and residents. Don't bother with some wanna-be charter captain from more than 25 miles away, the port host a small fishing fleet of advanced and expert fishing charter Captains. Captain Richard Bradley of Lagooner Fishing Guides lives adjacent to the City of Cape Canaveral and is five minutes away from marinas and launches at Port Canaveral. He's lived here his entire life and hasn't missed a cobia season in over 20 years.

Port Canaveral is directly adjacent to Cocoa Beach and is the very best place to go find cobia during the right time of the year. Cobia are warmer, tropical and sub-tropical fish and can be found where the water is at least 68 degrees. Typically cobia will migrate up to the Chesapeake during the summer and then go south for the winter to Florida. There are cobia that are residents and will not migrate, but move further out on the continental shelf when the cooler water comes to take advantage of the gulf stream water. Look for cobia during the spring and summer off Port Canaveral and Cocoa Beach and a sprinkling of cobia during warmer days in the winter/fall.

August - 2017 Fishing Forecast

August is another hot month on the Banana River Lagoon for temperatures but not as good for fishing. Look to the ocean out of Port Canaveral to be more productive or try some fishing down at Sebastian are during the hottest summer months. Redfish can move into the deeper flat regions of the Banana River during the later part of August in preparation of the spawn in September, but these will be the larger redfish and not the slot size that many enjoy for a meal. Look for next month to be a better month for the Banana River and then into the early winter it will even get better. If you're really looking to fish on the Banana River set up a half day evening trip or an early morning pre-dawn trip for snook and reds.
