Pending IGFA World Record Fish
Port Canaveral Snook Record
Wednesday April 25, 2018
Girard Middleton of Miami Beach has discovered that fishing with Captain Richard Bradley for world class snook and redfish can be spectacular. But on August 25, 2003 Girard had no idea that he would catch and release a 24 pound snook after officially weighing it on Seafood Atlantics FISC scales. Watch the video for yourself and look in awe at the size of this beast of a snook.
During the summer of 2003 there was an exceptional beach spawn of over 20 pound snook out of Port Canaveral. At the same time the IGFA released two options for snook in the 8 and 12 pound test class. We immediately knew we'd caught snook in that range the day before and went out prepared for some an IGFA record. While we did manage to land and weigh the snook, they were disqualified for a technicality and were shortly put out of our range by some anglers in central America. But HEY! Were didn't cheat and found some great fishing and good times.

Snook Links & Information
Snook in East Central Florida have many different habitats and conditions that make them a great target for anglers looking for variable ways to catch this elusive fish. Juvenile fish can be caught in the estuaries, canals and backwater areas almost all year long. While not as prestigious as large breeder snook, they are non-the-less enjoyable to catch and will bite on everything from baitcasters to flyrods and everything between. Juvenile snook are suckers for artificial's and readily take live bait as well.
Big breeding snook spawn on or near the beaches of Central Florida and always have a passageway or access to the beaches or inlets available to them. The only time a breeder snook is generally caught in the backwaters here is because it's a cooler transitional time period usually. Canaveral snook spend their winter months in the Port under docks, wharfs and around other structure like boats and pilings. You often see them hanging around the lights at night in small and large schools. Sebastian Inlet Snook are caught in the inlet itself during the summer and fall months and many of the larger snook migrate south to Jupiter Inlet or hunker down in the fresh warmer water of the Sebastian River a short distance away.

April - 2018 Fishing Report
April - 2018 Fishing Forecast
April flowers and spring fishing have taken over the Banana River Lagoon during and this month is a smorgasborg of fishing for anglers as the water temperatures are rising and spring is in the air. Look for the Banana River to produce some very nice Sea Trout and great redfish as both species are starting to move away from the deeper winter haunts and into the flats near sandbars and islands. Snook may be a great challenge for anglers that can cast accuratley against mangroves and docks.
NOTE: Cobia and Dorado are good opportunities for anglers during the this time of year in the offshore waters near the Banana River Lagoon.
